Su Tong is one of the most influential Chinese contemporary writers, and some commented that he is "a writer who can create the world in language." His novels "Mi", "My Emperor's Career", "Bi Nu", "River Bank", etc., have been translated as a variety of words. In the selection, "River Bank" won a number of international literature awards such as the British Literature Award. Overseas critics believe that: "Su Tong subverts the traditional narrative routine and breaks through the taboos of literature. The true charm of his novel lies in a deep insight into the human situation. He depicts people in the predicament with a unique pen."

In recent years, under the agent of the People's Literature Publishing House, Su Tong's novel "Yellow Bird" was published by the British Chasi Publishing House, and the short and medium stories such as "Night Story" will also be published in the UK.

On July 16th (Saturday) at 22:00 on the evening of Beijing time, we will invite writers Su Tong and famous Chinese sinologist Frances Wood online dialogue to discuss the translations and dissemination of Chinese contemporary literature in the UK.

This event will be broadcast live on multiple platforms at home and abroad for the first time. Welcome everyone to experience and read Su Tong's works with a new perspective with overseas audiences, and discover and understand Chinese literature from different perspectives.

Guest introduction

Su Tong, born in Suzhou, Jiangsu in 1963. He was admitted to the Chinese Department of Beijing Normal University in 1980. The "Escape of 1934" published in 1987 made it the leader of the "Pioneer". The representative work "Wife and his concubine" was once adapted from Zhang Yimou into the movie "High Red Lantern Hanging High", and the film was nominated for the Oscar Golden Awards. The novel "Mi", "Red Fan" and "Women's Life" have also been moved to the screen. He is currently the vice chairman of the Jiangsu Provincial Writers Association, and many works have been translated into English, French, German, and Italian.

Frances Wood, a famous British sinologist, historian and translator, graduated from Cambridge University, and studied at Peking University from 1975 to 1976. He entered the work of Da Ying Library in 1977, was responsible for managing the Chinese collection, and served as the director of the Chinese Ministry, until he retired in 2013. She loves Chinese culture and has made outstanding contributions to overseas propaganda Chinese culture.
