More than ten years ago, I began to pay attention to joy, pay attention to collecting and reading materials and research related to him, and write down some notes and papers intermittently. I have always wanted to write something about him, and said it for many years, but I did not write. It wasn't until 2019 that I lived in Domoto that I had a leisure time to write these notes and small papers, trying to write a small book.

Hi lived in the greatest time in Chinese history, Qin Shihuang. He was three years older than Qin Shihuang's Zheng Zheng. He died four years after the Emperor Shi of the Emperor completed the unification of China, and died seven years earlier than Qin Shihuang. He and Qin Shihuang are the same generation. I did not try to describe the life of joy, so this small book is not a history of joy. There is almost no history, or his personal history has little meaning. The history of his life in just forty -six years, in the long river of history, was so ordinary for a moment, and there was almost no narrative value. This is the case for each of us. For us personally, it is almost the life course of all life value. It is always compressed by a long historical time into a moment that can be almost ignored, so that we often doubt the meaning of life and even doubt our existence itself.

Therefore, I have no intention of biography, or write a happy personal history, or life history.

I just connect the sporadic materials, try to "stitch" a joy as a man, and find joy in that distant and unfamiliar world; then, imagine that I am standing in the position of joy, through his eyes, to go Looking at the world he lives, and describing the image of that world, it abstracts its structure, making it less distant and unfamiliar. I hope to dedicate it to the reader is a certain face of a humble individual life in the great historical process of Qin Shihuang to unify China. It is a few silhouettes centered on personal (joy) in the great era. However, the micro -environment can only be found in several individual particles in the changing historical structure. As a historian, I am very clear about the difficulties and risks of doing this: I am likely describing a world that I do n’t know at all, and joy is likely to deny that the person I wrote is himself.

Of course, he once lived in this world, just as each of us lived in the era of ourselves. However, we can know and describe joy today, but it is from the tomb of Xi to get scientific discovery and systematic research. And countless people who have survived like Xi, in our knowledge, may not have a trace. We will also be left in history like countless people. But we did exist in this world. One of the missions of historians lies in "discovering people in history". Only in this way can we prove our own existence in history and give our own survival meaning.

Therefore, this small book is trying to find the trace of joy in a magnificent historical structure, revealing the objectivity of these traces in the historical process, as well as the accidental and meaning of historical understanding. I hope to find our own sense of existence and "meaning" through joy.

The world is meaningful because human existence. If we do not exist, the prosperity and disappearance of the world will make it to us (we do not exist)? Therefore, the world is everyone. From the perspective of everyone, it will form their own world. In this sense, the world in the second half of the third century BC is not the world of Qin Shihuang alone, but the world of countless people. The historical process towards the unified China is only a part of the historical process. Since there are thousands of people, there are thousands of worlds. The "world" and "restore" of history into the world of countless people, not the world of one or others.

In the year when I was fully written in this small book, I often shuttled in the space -time tunnel between the Qin Shihuang era and the world today, and I often don't understand what the world I am in. "Yan Zichun" records such a story:
