China's development experience provides reference and inspiration for countries including ASEAN member states. In July 1991, Qian Qichen, then Chinese Foreign Minister, was invited by the Malaysian government to attend the 24th ASEAN Foreign Minister Conference held in Kuala Lumpur. In July 1996, China officially became a comprehensive dialogue partner of ASEAN in the 29th ASEAN Foreign Minister Conference in Jakarta, Indonesia. China has been the largest trading partner in ASEAN since 2009. The trade volume of the two parties has increased from US $ 235.5 billion in 2010 to $ 507.9 billion in 2019 (accounting for 18%of ASEAN trade). The bridge, highway and other facilities constructed by Chinese companies in Cambodia, connecting the high -speed rail of Laos and China and the necessary infrastructure projects, as well as bilateral and multilateral free trade agreements implemented by Chinese and ASEAN members. The leaders of Cambodia and China have reached a consensus that planned to increase bilateral trade to US $ 10 billion by 2023. Despite the impact of the epidemic, the trade volume of the two countries exceeded $ 11.1 billion in 2021. In the first quarter of 2022, Cambodia and China trade reached US $ 3.75 billion, an increase of 39.2%, ranking first in ASEAN member states.

In terms of poverty alleviation, China actively shared experience with Cambodia. On January 29, 2021, the China -Cambodia Friendship Poverty Alleviation Demonstration Village Project was officially launched in Tanorn Village in southern Cambodia. The project is funded by the China Peace Development Foundation, which aims to help the construction of rural roads, provide villagers with clean drinking water, carry out skill training, improve the public environment of the village, improve education and medical conditions, and improve villagers' living standards. Local villagers are very grateful for their help from the Chinese government and people.
