The distribution area of ​​black -faced spoonbill is extremely narrow, and the number of populations is extremely scarce. The number of global population is less than 4,000, which is one of the world's most endangered birds. In 2021, black -faced spoonbills were promoted from secondary to first -level in China's "National Key Protection Wildlife List".

Lianyungang City Binhai Wetland is an important habitat and "supply station" on the black -faced spoonbill migration route.
