Wang Yi met with NATO Secretary -General Stoltenberg

On September 22, 2022, local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with NATO Secretary -General Stoltenberg during attending the UN General Assembly.

Wang Yi said that as a permanent member of the Security Council, China has an open attitude towards a conversation with NATO and is willing to jointly promote the healthy and stable development of the relationship between the two parties. Both sides should strengthen communication, enhance understanding, and prevent misunderstandings and false information in accordance with a frank attitude and mutual respect.

Stoltenberg said that China is an important global force, the economy is constantly developing, and its impact has increased. NATO does not consider China as an opponent, attach importance to maintaining and strengthening contact with China, and holding a positive attitude towards the development of China. NATO will adhere to the established geographical category, and hopes to discuss cooperation with China in various fields such as military control and qi to better cope with global challenges. NATO and member states pursue a Chinese policy, and their positions on Taiwan's issues have not changed. It is expected that China will play an important role in ending the European war.

Wang Yi expressed his hope that NATO will grasp the current international situation with an objective and calm attitude, rather than simply drawing the line with "political correctness". In terms of peace and security, China is the best country with record. China has no genetic expansion genes. We have never invaded other countries, do not engage in the war of agents, do not seek the scope of power, do not output ideology, do not interfere with domestic politics, and do not participate in military groups. China has determined the path of peaceful development in legal form, hoping that NATO will establish a rational and correct cognition of China. China is willing to cooperate with NATO on global issues and contribute to peace and stability.

Wang Yi also elaborated the constructive role of Chinese side on the Ukraine issue and the constructive role of persuasion and talks. He said that he should discuss the establishment of a balanced, effective and sustainable European security framework to ensure the long -term security of Europe.
