China release 丨 National Health and Health Commission: Around 2035, my country will enter the stage of severe aging

China Net, September 20th, on September 20, the National Health Commission held a press conference on the progress and results of aging work since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. During the period, the total population of 60 and above in my country will exceed 300 million, accounting for more than 20%, entering the stage of moderate aging. Around 2035, the elderly population 60 and above will exceed 400 million, and the proportion of the total population will exceed 30%, entering the stage of severe aging.

Wang Haidong pointed out that my country ’s aging has a large number of situations and characteristics of a large number, fast speed, large differences, and heavy tasks. As of the end of 2021, the population of 60 and over the country reached 267 million, accounting for 18.9%of the total population; the 65 -year -old and over the elderly population reached more than 200 million, accounting for 14.2%of the total population.

From the perspective of urban and rural areas, the number of elderly people in urban areas is more than rural areas, but the aging level of rural areas is higher than that of urban areas. According to data in 2020, a total of 10 provinces with a population of more than 20%of the population of 60 and above in the country, mainly concentrated in northeast, Sichuan -Chongqing and other regions.

Wang Haidong said that by 2050, the scale and proportion of the elderly population in my country, the elderly support ratio and the social support ratio will reach the peak. With the continuous increase of the elderly population and the deepening of population aging, it has brought challenges to the sustainable development of public services and the sustainable social security system, and my country has a heavy task of responding to the aging of the population.

"In the next step, we will conscientiously implement the national strategy of actively responding to the aging of the population, adhere to the active view of aging, promote healthy aging, and strive to get out of the road of population aging with Chinese characteristics." Wang Haidong said.
