On the morning of September 20, the National Health Commission held a press conference to introduce the progress and results of the aging work since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and answered reporters.

Wang Haidong, director of the Aging of the National Health Commission, introduced that my country ’s aging is a large number of, fast speed, large differences, and heavy tasks.

First, there are a large number of elderly population, and the population aging is fast. As of the end of 2021, the population of 60 and over the country reached 267 million, accounting for 18.9%of the total population; the 65 -year -old and over the elderly population reached more than 200 million, accounting for 14.2%of the total population. According to estimates, it is expected that during the "Fourteenth Five -Year Plan" period, the total population of the elderly at the age of 60 and above will exceed 300 million, accounting for more than 20%, entering the mode of moderate aging. Around 2035, the elderly population 60 and above will exceed 400 million, and the proportion of the total population will exceed 30%, entering the stage of severe aging.

The second is that the area of ​​population aging is large. From the perspective of urban and rural areas, the number of elderly people in urban areas is more than rural areas, but the aging level of rural areas is higher than that of urban areas. According to data in 2020, a total of 10 provinces with a population of more than 20%of the population of 60 and above in the country, mainly concentrated in northeast, Sichuan -Chongqing and other regions.

The third is to respond to the heavy mission of population aging. By 2050, the scale and proportion of the elderly population, the proportion of the elderly, and the social support ratio of the elderly will reach the peak. With the continuous increase of the elderly population and deepening the aging of the population, it has brought challenges to the supply of public service and the sustainable development of the social security system, and the task is heavy.
