For many people who work and work overtime, "anxiety is not busy" is their general trouble, but the reasons behind them are different. What is the psychological significance of busyness? Is it a psychological problem if you can't stop? And, how can we coexist with busy rhythm? This article gives you the answer.
Proper busy can make you smarter
Psychologist Simer found in a 2011 study that busy people can improve their cognitive ability, and people with stronger cognitive ability will be more busy. Simer's team observed several activities in the daily life of some elderly people, including sports activities, such as jogging and gardening; social activities, such as visiting friends; and cognitive activities, such as playing computers, playing bridges, and then observing these elderly people Will people often engage in different activities. It was found that these activities could slow down the decline in cognitive capabilities. And those elderly people who have a serious cognitive ability are not so rich in lifestyle.
In addition to slowing down the decline in cognitive ability, busy life will also bring people a variety of challenges, let people learn new things, and contact challenging tasks. This forced the brain to leave the comfort zone, think, break through, and make the brain keen. With a keen mind, you will be more willing to accept new challenges, and the whole person will naturally not be free. American cognitive neuroscience Festini is also investigating in the "Dallas Brain Expected Life Research Study", whether busy people have better brain cognitive functions.
In this experiment, the researchers brought 330 people from 50 to 89 years old to ask their activities on this day to evaluate their busyness. The question asked, how many times I was so busy that I couldn't care about eating and sleeping, and how many times I felt exhausted because I had too many things. Next, the experimental staff did a series of tests to evaluate the subject's brain function, such as reaction speed, memory ability, speculative ability, and so on. The tests they designed include the differences in the subjects in a long string of numbers. Or put the small ball in the box, then constantly change the position of the box, and then let the subject find out the box that puts the ball. Another example is to disrupt the original order of different colors, let them recall the previous order, and so on.
What is the final result? Experimental personnel found that those who often keep busy in the subjects performed better in brain function test than those who are not very busy. Moreover, whether it is 50 or 89, this experimental result is applicable. In addition to these middle -aged and elderly people, Festini also said that the experimental conclusion could cover the entire adult population over 20 years old.
Can't stop, it is a new type of "epidemic disease"
Although busy has the effect of improving cognitive functions, the busyness of compulsoryness will have a negative impact on physical and mental health. Psychologist Brigid Schulte mentioned in the monograph in 2017 that the reason why people make themselves continue to be busy because today's working environment is encouraging people to become a "workaholic".
Work performance seems to have a great connection with individual evaluations. More and more people think that only when working continuously can they prove that they have the ability and responsibility; even employees who are originally more idle will pretend to work constantly, because they are afraid that once they seem to be idle, they will be accused of "work slackness. "Or" not in group. " People admire work and misunderstand leisure, and do not recognize the importance of leisure. For example, it will think that leisure is only a waste of time, and even feels guilty for leisure, because "there is no output" during leisure.
Compared to men, it is more difficult for women to enjoy leisure time. Because women are more educated to consider the needs of others, many women can stop busy when they start leisure. For example, some women said: "Whenever I go out, I will blame myself: how can you leave your children and families to play?" Everyone is talking about work-balanced life, but it seems that none of them are not Dare to really own it. Whenever you work, it seems to be a reason to be negatively evaluated.
At the same time, the popularity of the mobile Internet has spawned the workplace culture of "Always on", and our work and life have no absolute separation. Essence Try to think back, when is the time when you can "do not deal with any work" last time? This workplace culture has changed people's views on "busy" and "rest". More and more employers and employees have begun to think that "constant busyness means duty", "rest is negative laziness", "the more busy people, the higher the value of the company" and so on. In "Forever Online", busy and "duty" and "success" have gradually been drawn.
The workplace culture that is always online allows everyone to infect a kind of competitive pressure. If you are not so busy, will you become a loser? People who are not interesting? Even if you don't want to be busy, once you are leisurely, you may really be evaluated by the boss and others as "laziness", "unsatisfactory", "not good enough". How can this not make people stress?
What should I do if it is "busy"?
For those who are accustomed to anxiety with busy treatment, this requires always alertness: busy can only temporarily relieve anxiety, but it may bring more long -term consequences. We need to learn to enjoy the intermittent task time, don't always think about a moment. Studies have found that when you take a 15-30 minutes during work, it will help improve memory, and allow people to "clear" the brain in time during the sleeping period, reduce attention residues, and prepare for new information in the future. Busy positive meaning only exists only when it really can lead you to a better life. And what is a good life is very different for everyone. No one can help you answer this question, including everyone who does not look enough to criticize you because you don't look enough. We have to find our own answer before we can find the rhythm of really suitable work and life.
