It was not until the 1980s that Britain began to discuss the return of Hong Kong with China. On December 19, 1984, the Chinese and British governments officially signed the "Joint Statement on the Hong Kong Issues" in Beijing; on May 27, 1985, the Chinese and British governments were approved for exchange, and the "Joint Statement" officially took effect; 1985 On June 12, the Chinese and British governments sent the statement to the United Nations registration for record.
