Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security: The number of urban employment continues to expand 2021 employment to 46.773 million

At 10 am on August 25th, the Central Propaganda Department held a series of theme press conferences of the "Ten Years of China". Li Zhong, deputy director of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, introduced the progress and effectiveness of employment and social security work since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

At the meeting, the scale of urban employment continued to expand, and the employment structure continued to optimize. The number of urban employment increased from 37.287 million in 2012 to 46.773 million in 2021, and the average annual number of new employment in cities and towns exceeded 13 million. The level of unemployment remains low, and the unemployment rate is generally lower than the expected control goals. The urban and rural employment pattern has changed historically. In 2014, the proportion of urban employment staff exceeded the countryside for the first time, and in 2021, it reached 62.7%, an increase of 13.8 percentage points from 2012. The tertiary industry has improved employment capabilities, and the proportion of employees of primary, second, and tertiary industries accounted for 33.5%, 30.4%, and 36.1%in 2012 to 22.9%, 29.1%, and 48%in 2021. The quality of employment has been further improved, and the labor productivity of the whole society has increased from 81,000 yuan to 146,000 yuan. More workers have shifted from low productivity departments to high productivity departments. In 2021, the salary level of the employment staff of the urban unit doubled compared with 2012.
