According to the Associated Press, former 69 -year -old Malaysian Prime Minister Najib was imprisoned for 12 years for a number of corruption. On August 23, local time, the Federal Court of Malaysia rejected Najib's appeal. The five judges' groups concluded that Najib's appeal was not foundation, and the initial high court ruling was correct.
This ruling made Najib the first former prime minister in Malaysia to serve in prison. He will lose the identity of the parliament and the opportunity to run again unless he has forgive Malaysia's top head for pardon.
According to the BBC, Najib continued to deny that there was any improper behavior, but there was almost no chance to appeal again, but he still maintained part of his reputation in Malaysian society, and he was still influential in the Malaysian unified institution (UMNO). If his political party performed well in the upcoming election, he might promote the pardon of the royal family.
According to the Associated Press, the court also rejected Najib's request to delay his sentence. Najib was brought to the Kuangling Prison in the suburbs of Kuala Lumpur after the verdict.
Najib's wife Rosma also faced the charges of corruption. She expressed no guilty of this, and the High Court scheduled to make a judgment on the case on September 1.
