It is produced in the Mongolian Mountains of the Panthe Nature Reserve in Yangcheng River. It is also distributed across the country in southern Shaanxi, southern Gansu, northeast of Sichuan and southwest, Henan, northeast of Yunnan, and northern Guangxi, and western Hubei. Most of them were born in the bushes and slopes beside the ditch at an altitude of 150 meters to 1750 meters. This is a unique species in China. In terms of Shanxi, it is the northernmost boundary that has been found to be distributed as of now, and has a certain value of biological geography.

Iron amaranth plants are annual or perennial herbs, shrubs or small trees.
