On July 31st local time, Costa Rican presidential Palace issued a communiqué stating that Costa Ricanian President Chavez was diagnosed with infected H1N1 influenza virus. In view of the infectiousness of the disease, Chavez would cancel official activities in the next few days. The commissions said that Chavez himself was in good health and would carry out remote office. At present, there is no evidence that the H1N1 flu is widely spread in Costa Rica.

In March 2009, a "human infection of pig influenza" epidemic occurred in Mexico, causing death. On April 30 of the same year, the World Health Organization announced that it would increase the level of influenza's popularity to level 5, and the epidemic subsequently spread in many countries around the world.Studies have shown that the pathogen that causes the epidemic is a new type A H1N1 influenza virus after mutation. The strain contains the genetic fragments of pork influenza, bird flu, and human flu virus. The influenza epidemic renamed "Human Infection Pig Influenza" to "H1N1 Influenza".
