The South Korean Navy announced on the 29th that the Navy submarine forces will start using female soldiers in 2024. This will be the first time that the female soldiers have allowed female soldiers to serve in the history of the South Korean military.
According to the Yonhap News Agency, the South Korean Navy made a decision during a policy meeting the day before. It is planned to screen the female soldiers for the submarine forces next year and let them serve at 3,000 tons of submarines.
South Korea has not allowed female soldiers to serve in service. The reason is that the submarine space is small and lacks basic living facilities that facilitate the use of female soldiers.
For the first time in 2014, the South Korean Navy considered the feasibility of serving the submarine on the female soldiers. In May this year, in order to seek the female soldiers' opinions, about 50 female soldiers experienced the medium -sized submarine experience.
"From the perspective of female soldiers, I feel that the working environment of (submarine) is complete," said one of the female soldiers. "If it was selected as the first female soldier of the submarine forces, I would be very proud."
But she admits that compared with the more spacious surface ships, the service in the submarine may need to overcome difficulties.
Norway's 1985 allowed female soldiers to serve in service, which is the first country in the world to break the tradition of not using female soldiers without the use of female soldiers. At present, submarines in the United States, Australia, Canada, and Japan have women in service.
