Chinese equestrian activities have a long history. China's local horses not only participate in the construction of business, communication and infrastructure along the ancient Silk Road, but also promote China's major military, social and political development. As early as 700 years ago, equestrian activities were carried out in Beijing. During the 2008 Beijing Olympics, China participated in the Olympic equestrian competition for the first time.
In recent years, China has introduced policies to promote the development of the national fitness and sports industry. Equestrian movement has also received policy support. Equestrian clubs have developed rapidly, and the demand for equestrian movement has gradually increased. The cost of equestrian movement is not low. But with the increasing income of Chinese people, more and more people participating in this sport. The Chinese Equestrian Association said that the size of the Chinese equestrian industry increased from 90.9 billion yuan in 2016 to 138.3 billion yuan in 2019, an increase of 51%. Today, the industry has grown steadily every year.
Since the 2008 Olympic Games, the number of equestrian clubs in China has increased steadily, from about 200 in 2010 to more than 2,000 in 2019. As of August 31, 2019, there were 2,272 equestrian clubs in China. Equestrian enthusiasts include membership fees, horses foster fees, class hours, and buying horses. The average annual fee in East China is the highest, reaching 24032 yuan, of which the most expensive Shanghai is 38,403 yuan.
There are about 420,000 members of equestrian clubs across China, of which 77%are children and adolescents. Adult members' proportion has declined sharply, currently only 23%. Researchers pointed out that China's youth equestrian market has increased significantly over the past three years. Club members are mainly women and have been growing. China does not have a local equestrian teaching system, and most clubs adopt a mature foreign teaching system. At the same time, China is taking measures to build a modern horses breeding system.
Relevant experts said that in recent years, policy encouragement and the rapid growth of the middle -income population have driven the continuous upgrading of Chinese sports consumption, and the demand for middle and high -end sports such as equestrian is increasing. More and more Chinese young people have begun to participate in equestrian movements. In the future, equestrian movements will be popularized and localized in China. (Cui Xiaodong Translation)
