UN Secretary -General Gutres announced on the 25th that Li Junhua, a senior diplomat in China, was appointed Deputy Secretary -General of the United Nations in charge of economic and social affairs.
According to a statement issued by the Office of the UN Secretary -General's spokesman, Li Junhua will replace Liu Zhenmin who is also from China. Gutres thanked Liu Zhenmin's dedication to the United Nations during his tenure.
The statement said that Li Junhua would put forward views and visions on promoting multilateral economic and social cooperation. He promised to further implement the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and committed to serving member states. Earlier, he contributed multiple meetings of the United Nations Asia and the Pacific Economic and Social Commission, the UN General Assembly and the Security Council, as well as the 20th Guofu Group, Asia -Pacific Economic Cooperation, Asia -Europe Conference, BRICS countries and other multilateral meetings.
Li Junhua joined the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1985. He is currently the Chinese Ambassador to Italy and the Saint -Marino. He had previously served as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ambassador of the Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, and the Minister of Political Affairs of the United Nations delegation in the United Nations delegation.
