Recently, nine Pacific coast America, including Costa Rica, signed a historic synthesis declaration of protection of the marine protection to protect the marine ecological environment and biological diversity.
Costa Rica has more than 1,200 kilometers long coastline. It is rich in marine life and is considered "one of the richest marine areas in the world". The country has continued to increase marine ecological protection and measures to introduce. In November last year, Costa Rica, Colombia, Ecuador, and Panama signed the "Declaration of the East Pacific Tropical Marine Channel Protection and Management Declaration" to decide to expand the area of the existing marine protected areas to better protect marine life. Costa Rica announced that the protected ocean area has expanded from 2.7%of its collar to more than 30%, an increase of nearly 53,000 square kilometers. It is reported that these areas will cover more than 82%of endangered marine species habitat.
Anna Gloolia Golzman, the executive director of the Non -Government Organization of Costa Rican Office, believes that Costa Rica expands the marine protection zone and contributes to the goal of the country's marine protection. "Costa Rica has always been at the forefront in the protection of the ocean, but we must realize that to protect the diversity of marine and marine life, it still needs to work harder." Gutzman said.
Beach ecological protection is also valued by the Costa Rica government. The country established the "Ecological Blue Banner" certification project in 1997 to protect Costa Rica's diverse and fragile coastal ecosystems, prevent beach pollution, and improve environmental quality. Over the years, Costa Rica Tourism Bureau has jointly cooperated with local tourism chambers of commerce, research institutes, as well as government departments such as the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Public Health. Many beaches are evaluated. Through the "Ecological Blue Flag" certification project, they give different rewards for 1 star to 5 stars in the beach protection according to the strength of beach protection. 5 stars are the highest level to motivate coastal areas to strengthen beach protection.
The Costa Rica Tourism Bureau recently announced that a total of 140 beaches have obtained the "ecological blue flag" certification this year, setting the highest record since the establishment of the certification project. Among them, 11 beaches have 5 stars, and 33 beaches have special stars such as "pink", "gold", "silver", "orange", and "green". Special star levels indicate that these beaches have achieved outstanding achievements in specific aspects such as safety, cleaning, animal protection, and sustainable construction. It is reported that the Beach Hotel in Costa Rica often encourages guests to participate in cleaning activities to help maintain beach hygiene. Alberto Lopez, head of the Costa Rica Tourism Bureau, said that with the support of coastal communities and hotels, Costa Rica's tourism industry has achieved further development, and domestic and foreign tourists can enjoy the best sun and beaches.
As part of the Costa Rock Reef Protection Project, the first underwater museum in Central America has recently opened a museum near the country's Braba. The museum not only brings a new diving experience for tourists, but also provides habitat for local marine life. "We believe that this museum will shorten the distance between the visitors and the ocean and encourage them to protect the marine biological habitat," said Saisal Balgas, the head of the museum project.
