On September 1, 2020, the Public Security Bureau of Erhai County asked for the approved arrest to transfer the suspect Hong Yan, Cao Zeqing, Zhang Chenguang, and Qi Wenqiang to the crime of intentional homicide and theft to the Erhai County People's Procuratorate for examination and arrest. After the acceptance of the People's Procuratorate of Erhai County, on September 4, 2020, the criminal suspect Hong Yan was arrested for suspected intentional homicide and theft; the suspect Cao Zeqing and Zhang Chenguang were arrested for suspected killing; People Qi Wenqiang was arrested for suspected theft.
