Shanghai folk activities have been circulated early on national traditional sports activities such as martial arts and chess. In 1843, the port was opened, and modern Western sports accompanied the western diaspora and Western culture to China. Shanghai became the birthplace of modern sports in my country. Sports moved from Shanghai to the country and entered millions of households. The old photos above, I pulled us back to Shanghai a hundred years ago, feeling the strong sports atmosphere in colleges and universities at that time. In the process of development of Shanghai's modern sports, the school plays an important role in it.

The occurrence of modern sports in Shanghai Chinese society was later in the concession. The earliest appeared in the form of gymnastics in new schools and church schools. During the period of the Republic of China, in the Shanghai campus, track and field projects and other projects gradually developed in the form of extracurricular activities.

Since the establishment of St. John Academy in 1879, physical education and sports such as Fudan University, Jiaotong University, Tongji University, Hujiang University and other universities have flourished. At that time, it was gradually carried out in colleges and universities. Students who have studied modern sports in schools, and after graduating, they have brought sports into society and promoted the development of Shanghai social sports.

Speaking of Shanghai's modern sports, horse racing has to be mentioned. Thirty years of Daoguang (1850), China's first standard racecourse was completed in Shanghai, and the first horse racing was carried out in the second year. In 2014, the Global Equestrian Championship settled in Shanghai, and the city of Shanghai witnessed the birth and development of China's modern equestrian movement.

From 1863 to 1919, the horse running hall held a horse gaming contest every spring and autumn, and the competition increased after 1920. In 1909, Jiangnan Fujia Ye Yizheng was determined to build the Chinese racetrack in the Huajie because he could not stand the insult of foreigners. He recruited 1,200 acres of land and imitated the style of the "Shanghai Malaysia Hall". After the start of the Jiangwan racetrack in May 1911, the horse racing competition "Ten Thousands of Empty Lane" not only attracted many wealthy businessmen, but also some foreigners who gambled in the "Shanghai Marriage Hall" also changed to the door to participate.
