Let the world see Chinese rowing

I still remember that last year's Golden Autumn October, the Suzhou River hundreds of sheds witnessed the feast of the water competition. From the first rowing club in Chinese history held in the Huangpu River in Shanghai in 1852, to the establishment of the "Shanghai Shipping Federation" in 1863, and in 1956, Shanghai selected more than 30 athletes from the city to train in the rowing club ... The history of Chinese rowing starts from Shanghai and moves towards major water systems across the country. After a century -old change, the rowing returned to the place where the dream began.

Not just the campaign of the elite class

The birthplace of rowing sports is Britain. There, the rowing took a long time to complete the transformation from the elite movement to the national movement. But in China, the situation is completely different. After the founding of New China, the birth of the Shanghai rowing originated from a adventure of two young people, and then the sport took root in the people. From universities and factories to party and government agencies, the prosperity of the struggle of hundreds of times was performed frequently on the banks of the Huangpu River in the late 1950s.

In 1957, Shanghai rowers participated in the Shanghai Rowing Championships on the Huangpu River

Since entering the 21st century, more and more schools have begun to devote themselves to them. During the period, many talents have emerged, becoming the main force to promote the development of Shanghai rowing careers. Thanks to the sponsorship and support of many enterprises, the social club is gradually growing, actively participating in major events across the country and the world, and allowing rowing to mature institutionalized in China. Later, many civil clubs have emerged, allowing ordinary enthusiasts to have the opportunity to experience rowing. This is of great significance to the promotion of rowing.

Fusion of physical education, return to the place where the dream starts

In the late 1950s, Shanghai ushered in a wave of rowing sports. At that time, many rowers who were active on the water came from various universities and middle schools in Shanghai. Rowing has always been a sport that allows teenagers to be boiling and performed.

After the 21st century, the rowing movement has ushered in a new opportunity for development in Shanghai. At that time, no university in Shanghai had set up a rowing team. Li Jianxin, then Secretary -General of the Shanghai Shipping Association, was very much looking forward to that Shanghai, as the "cradle" of the New China rowing sports, can form a rowing team that can formulate professional training in time. And his hope quickly became a reality.

In the summer of 2001, two famous universities in Shanghai and Shanghai Jiaotong University formed a rowing team. The famous rowing coaches Tang Jianxiu, who had trained the Olympic medal players, and Gu Xiaoli, a bronze winner of the Olympic Games, were the head coaches. The Shanghai Water Sports Center provided venue and equipment support to help the two teams prepare for the first world famous school rowing race held on the Beijing Kunyu River in September of that year. In addition to the students at Peking University and Tsinghua University at the same time, there were many old teams such as Oxford University, Cambridge University, Harvard University, and Yale University. Although the two teams that had just been formed for a long time could not defeat these traditional strong teams for a while, they took the first step from scratch to the return of Shencheng Campus.

With the persistence and efforts of generations of rowers, many colleges and universities in Shanghai have formed a strong rowing atmosphere, and they are becoming more and more familiar with the outside world. Especially in 2018, the World College Rowing Championships held in Dianshan Lake was the first time that the competition was established out of Europe for decades. A total of 25 countries and regions participated, setting a record of the largest number of participants in history. Through this world -class event, it not only allowed the outside world to understand the development of rowing movements in China, but also the rowing movement has also become a brand new business card of Chinese universities based on the forest of the world.

The whole people row, dream back to Suzhou River

From the "Henry Cup" royal rowing competition that spans the century -old history of the British Thames, and to the Charles Rouchboat Competition in Boston in the United States, looking at the world, many cities with deep rowing have their own traditional events. As the origin of the Chinese rowing movement, Shanghai also looks forward to creating a regular high -quality rowing competition that can be held regularly, becoming one of the dazzling business cards of the city.

In Shanghai, where the rowing competition is held, the "Mother River" of the Suzhou River is naturally the best choice. Li Jianxin, who is now the vice chairman of the Chinese Rowing Association and the coach of the Chinese rowing team, has another important significance for the Suzhou River for Shanghai rowing. "My coaches and seniors have been in Suzhou in the past The conditions on the river. The conditions at that time were still difficult. After the British withdrew from the rowing club, they only left very simple training facilities. The coaches were all self -taught in such an environment. Every successor. The Suzhou River is not only a place to breed the sea -faction culture, but also the place where the Shanghai rowing movement is bred. "

After careful organization and preparation, the Shanghai Rowing Open returned to the Suzhou River and came to us in 2021. Despite the impact of the epidemic, the competition could not invite overseas universities rowing teams, but it still gathered the top domestic rowers to participate. On that weekend, it was the choice of many citizens to see the row on the Suzhou River. Entering the crowd, the sound of cheers, the sound of refueling, and sounding the field. At this moment, everyone was enjoying the charm of rowing sports and feeling the cultural style of the city.
