Sri Lanka will choose a new president in a week

According to Reuters, President Rajapaksa announced his resignation after the protests broke out in the capital of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka Speaker Abvadner said on July 11 that the parliament will re -hold a meeting on the 15th and will vote for the new president after the 20th. During this period, Abvadner will be appointed as agent president.

Abervadner said that the protesters had previously rushed to the President and Prime Minister's residence in Sri Lanka, and the president and the Prime Minister both resigned.

On the 9th local time, the Prime Minister Vicramainha's house was ignited by the protesters, and he would resign. Victor Masinger's office said that once an agreement is reached to form the entire party government, the cabinet will resign.

President Rajapaksa said he would resign on the 13th.

The opposition leader Preta Madasa said he had prepared to return to China to form a new government to revive the national economy.

The unified national forces led by Preda Madasa are one of the main opposition parties of the parliament. In the August 2020 parliamentary election, the unified national forces won 54 of the 225 seats.

Preda Madasa lost in the presidential election in 2919, and on the 11th he said he was expected to be nominated for president.

Sri Lanka constitutional experts said that Lajapaksa's term was originally ended in 2024. Speaker will be appointed as agent president before voting.
