"These concerns are reasonable. This matter is related to terrorism, related to weapons exports." Stoltenberg said at a joint press conference held with Finnish President Ninito.

Sweden and Finland submitted an application for joining NATO on May 18, which required unanimous consent from 30 member states in NATO. Turkey, a member of NATO, has previously explicitly objected, unless Sweden and Finland agreed to crack down on the Kurdish Workers' Party and their related organizations that have been identified by Turkey as "terrorist organizations".

Stoltenberg said that Turkey is located in the Black Sea between Europe and the Middle East because its strategic location is one of NATO's key allies. He also mentioned that since Russia has adopted "special military operations" on Ukraine on February 24, Turkey has also provided support for Ukraine.

He also said: "We must remember and understand that no terrorist attacks suffered by NATO allies than Turkey."

Stoltenberg and Nienezo said the above applications about Sweden and Finland will continue to negotiate with Turkey, but did not disclose whether the negotiations have made progress.

"The Madrid Summit has never been (negotiated with Turkey) at the last period of the Madrid Summit." He refers to the NATO leader meeting held in Madrid at the end of June.

Kalin said at the time: "If it does not resolve the security concerns of Turkey, any process of NATO expansion cannot continue. NATO is a security organization, which means that the alliance should ensure that the security concerns of member states get equal and fair response." He added that Ankara would not reach a losing agreement before the next meeting of NATO.
