British media: Despite the surge in edible oil prices, tens of thousands of tons of edible oils are used for fuel every day in Europe

[Global Times Comprehensive Report] A latest survey found that about 17,000 tons (approximately 19 million bottles) of consumption oil in Europe is used as automotive fuel every day. According to the British "Guardian" reported on the 22nd, although Europe's consumption oil prices have soared and the price is 250%higher than before 2021, Europeans still did not stop "pouring edible oil into the fuel tank."

It is reported that from 2015 to 2019, 58%of European rapeseed oil and 9%sunflower seed oil were used as cars and truck fuels, and their impact on the climate was more serious than fossil fuels. Affected by the epidemic and geopolitical conflict, the unsafe conditions of the food are unprecedented, but even in this case, about 10%of the world's grains are still converted into biofuels. Researchers estimate that these 10%of the food is enough for 1900 million to provide for 1.9 billion. The population eats a whole year. Mike Mallances, a member of the European Transportation Environment Federation, said: "In the period of supplies, we must give priority to food rather than fuel."

It is reported that biofuels can strengthen food safety and become alternatives to fossil fuels. Europe hopes to promote hybrid biofuel formula to reduce the use of grain fuel.
