On the morning of September 27, Lu Hengjun, Chief of the Population Trend Section of the South Korean Bureau of Statistics, announced the results of the "Reason for Death in 2021" in the Shizong Government Building. Data show that the total number of deaths in the country last year was 30,7680, an increase of 12,732 (4.2%) from the previous year. The number of deaths is the highest level since South Korea's establishment of statistics since 1983. It is also the highest for the second consecutive year after 2020.

According to statistics, among the total deaths, the most proportion of deaths are cancer, heart disease, pneumonia, cerebrovascular disease, intentional self -harm (suicide), diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, liver disease, sepsis, and hypertension. These 10 causes of death account for 66.0%of all deaths. Among them, the top three (cancer, heart disease, and pneumonia) accounted for 43.1%of all deaths.

In addition, the number of deaths caused by the new coronary virus was 5030, an increase of about 1,000 over a year ago. Among those who died in the new crown, 92.4%of people were over 60 years old. In the women's group, the new crown virus is listed as the 10th cause.

If you are divided by age, the first cause of death in the young people to 30 is suicide, and the first cause of death in his 40s is cancer. Last year, the country's suicide death was 13,352, an increase of 1.2%over the previous year. On average, 36.6 people commit suicide every day. South Korea's suicide rate is 23.6 of 100,000 people per 100,000, which is more than twice the average level of 38 countries (11.1 of 100,000) in the OEMs. Since 2018, South Korea's suicide rate has ranked first among the Economic Organization countries.
