The United States' identification of the status of the "Non -NATO" began in 1987. The United States provides military and economic privileges in the fields of national defense trade and security cooperation, but does not need to make any security commitments.

According to the U.S. State Department's website information, the "Non -NATO major allies" are eligible to apply for material loans in projects such as cooperative R & D, testing, and evaluation. They can carry out bilateral or multilateral cooperation training with the United States. Funding device and other anti -terrorism R & D projects supported by the United States obtained funding support. Enterprises in these countries can bid for maintenance or repairs of US overseas military equipment. In addition, the "Non -NATO major allies" can be used as an overseas storage point for war reserve materials owned by the United States.
