Earlier, the capital of Kazakhstan was Alamu. Aramutu is the largest city in Kazakhstan, located on the border of the southeast Kazakhstan, near China and Gilgisan.

In 1997, Nazarbayev, then President, moved the capital from Alamu to Astana. Since then, Asana has replaced Almutu and became the new capital.

On March 20, 2019, the Kazakh Timan Council passed the constitutional amendment to rename the capital Astana to Nur Sudan to the first President Nur Sudan Nazarba, the first president of Kazakhstan, who had just stepped down, Yev tried to pay tribute.
