Earlier, the capital of Kazakhstan was Alamu. Aramutu is the largest city in Kazakhstan, located on the border of the southeast Kazakhstan, near China and Gilgisan.
In 1997, Nazarbayev, then President, moved the capital from Alamu to Astana. Since then, Asana has replaced Almutu and became the new capital.
Nazarbayev was the first president after Kazakhstan's independence.
On March 19, 2019, Nazarbayev announced his resignation of president. Tocaev was sworn in the next day and officially became the second president since the country's independence.
At that time, Toccyev proposed to commemorate the country's first President Nazarbayev to change the name of the capital Astana to Nur Sudan. (Note: Nazarbayev's full name is Nur Sultan Abasovich Nazarbayev)
On September 2 this year, the "New Kazakh" parliament group proposed that the country's capital was restored to the former Astana by the opportunity to modify the constitution. Toccyev's press secretary Rusham Jeldin said that the president has agreed to rename under the initiative of a group of parliament members.
