According to Papua New Guinea's "Merchants", a magnitude 7.6 earthquake that occurred on the morning of September 11 caused to varying degrees of destruction to Martin and East Highland provinces in Papua New Guinea.

In the province of Madang, the earthquake triggered the landslide of the mountains. Some villages were buried in the landslide.
