The EU Council announced on September 9 that the European Union will comprehensively suspend the visa facilitation agreement with Russia from September 12.

The EU Council stated in a statement issued on the same day that the cost of Russian citizens applying for the EU visa will increase from the current 35 euros to 80 euros, and the procedures for issuing new visas to Russians will be stricter and longer.

On August 31, the Foreign Minister of EU member states reached a "political consensus" at a meeting held at the Czech Prague to stop the EU and Russia's visa facilitation agreement.
