According to the Earthquake Information Network of the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at 8:32 on the 6th (16:32 on the 6th of Beijing time on the 6th). The epicenter was located at 56.565 degrees south latitude and 25.790 degrees west. The depth of the earthquake was 10 kilometers.

The South Sangwich Islands are composed of desolate islands, close to Antarctica, and there are many mountains on the island. They are covered by ice and snow all year round.
