Endangered and foot disease penguins are re -walking with the help of special orthopedic shoes

The four -year -old penguin was called Lucas, living in San Diego Zoo, and Lucas suffered from a degenerative foot disease. More than three years ago it had spinal infections, which caused the leg muscles to be weak and unable to use toes upright. When drug treatment, physical therapy and acupuncture treatment failed to alleviate the infection, ulcers began to appear on its feet and legs. Subsequently, LUCAS was diagnosed with chronic diseases called Hornet feet, causing lesions of its feet. If it is not treated, it may suffer from sepsis and even die due to infection. To this end, the wild animal protection experts in the zoo contacted an organization that created rehabilitation and auxiliary products for animals with special needs, and they were very happy to help Lucas.

Lucas's "new shoe" is made of chlorine rubber and rubber to prevent pressure sores on feet and ankles when standing and walking. Debbie Denton, a senior wildlife protection expert at San Diego Zoo, said: "After we put new shoes for Lucas, it can walk immediately, which surprises us.
