US media: "No matter who won, the United States will be a loser."
Author:Global Times Time:2022.08.26
The US "National Interest" two -month website published on August 21st entitled "No matter who won in Ukraine, the United States has lost", the author is Lamon Max. The full text is as follows:
No matter who won the Ukrainian war, the United States will be a strategic loser. Russia will strengthen relations with China and other Eurasia countries (including India, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and other Gulf countries). Russia will not be able to alienate European countries and the United States. Russia and China will curb the global leadership of the United States.
Russia knew that they could not continue to treat Europe as the number one energy customer, so they would sell more fossil fuels to Asia. Strengthening energy relations with Russia will help the two countries closer relations. With Russia, the energy supply country, China will inevitably gain greater strategic flexibility when dealing with the United States and its allies.
Russia has also greatly strengthened energy cooperation with India. Today, India imports more than 760,000 barrels of Russian oil every day. Russia's sale of fossil fuel to India will hinder the United States, Australia, and Japan that pull India into the so -called "Democratic country in India".
In fact, India holds a neutral attitude on the Ukrainian issue, and it refuses to blame Russia. India's response to Russia and Ukraine's conflict highlights that India may not fully integrate into the alliance like the "Quartet Safety Dialogue".
For the West, the worse news is that India is not the only country that condemn Russia's "invasion" Ukraine to decide to vote for power votes. Another 34 countries refused to stand on the side of the West. States that reject Russia have two -thirds of the world's population. Even the nearly neighbor of the United States, Mexico, refused to join the ranks of sanctions against Russia.
This is the cruel strategic reality that the United States needs to accept. After the Russian and Ukraine conflict, Western countries quickly passed a series of sanctions on Russia. Western energy sanctions have produced the effect of incidents to a certain extent, which has caused severe inflation and supply tensions, resulting in the EU needs difficulties in cope with the economic consequences brought about. Although the West criticized Russia to export oil and natural gas as weapons, the reality is that it is the European Union and the United States who take the lead in showing the first energy weapon. After the start of the Russian and Ukraine conflict, they immediately announced that they would reduce the purchase of fossil fuels for Russia.
One of the influences of the Ukraine crisis is the unity of NATO member states to support Ukraine. However, compared with the Baltic countries and other NATO member states, the United States has more support for Ukraine than the share that the United States should bear.
US foreign policy departments should take European allies more responsibilities to Europe and Asia. If the United States adheres to the historical assumptions that have been promoted in NATO in 1949, then things will only become worse for the over -tight US military resources and military capabilities. The United States is no longer the world overlord.
