This ruling includes four lawsuits in Fukushima, Kunma, Chiba and Ehime County, involving about 3,700 people who have severely damaged in Fukushima nuclear disasters. The court rejected their request for the government to pay compensation, and the nuclear power plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Corporation bears all responsibilities.
According to Kyodo News, the focus of the lawsuit is whether the government and Tokyo Electric Power Corporation can foresee the tsunami 11 years ago and take preventive measures.
The plaintiff argued that if the government exercises supervision power and ordered the company to take precautionary measures based on long -term evaluation, the disaster can be avoided. However, the government and Dongdian claimed that the assessment has not been determined, and even if it is foreseeable that severe tsunami and take measures, they cannot bear the responsibility, because the size and direction and estimation of the tsunami are actually different.
Since 2013, about 12,000 people filed about 30 damage compensation lawsuits to the Japanese government and Dongdian on the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Among the 12 cases, the District Court believes that government and public enterprises negligently negligible when responding to such incidents. Among the 11 cases, the District Court only required enterprises to pay compensation.
For the results of the 17th judgment, the Fukushima people said that "unacceptable and unconvinced." They gathered in front of the Supreme Court, loudly scolding the government at all regardless of the victims.
The result of this ruling also caused heated discussion on social networking sites. Some Japanese netizens said: "We investigate ourselves and then sentence themselves to be innocent. Is this reasonable? We are cool!" Some netizens left a message: "Tsunami and earthquakes cannot be predicted. This is a difficult ruling."
