Japanese Foreign Minister Lin Fangzheng held a telephone conversation with the Philippine Foreign Minister Manaro on the 17th. The two sides discussed the regional situation and made it clear that they would continue to cooperate in the fields of economy and trade. Lin Fangzheng said that Japan would support the Philippine economic recovery and expressed his willingness to deepen the cooperation between Japan and the Philippines in agriculture, disaster prevention, digital and other fields. As Japan and the Philippines intended to strengthen economic cooperation, Hong Kong's "South China Morning Post" stated on the 17th that after the shortage of funds caused the transaction with China to be blocked, the Philippines considered helping Japan financing for its railway projects.
The South China Morning Post stated that the Philippine government said on the 15th that it was considering cooperation with Japan to restart the country's railway project. Filipong Minister Baotista said the Philippine government has held talks with officials from Japan's International Unit to provide funds for the latter's transportation projects led by President Duterte. In July of this year, the Philippine Ministry of Transport said that China refused the Filipable government to raise funds for three major railway projects. These three projects were the Philippine National Railway Line Line, Subick Clark Railway and Mianlan Old Island Railway.
It is reported that the Minister of Communications of the Philippines and the Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines last week re -discussed the above -mentioned projects. Baotista said that these railway facilities may not be completed within his tenure of Philippine President Marcos at the end of June this year. "Six years (President of the Philippines -Editor's Note) may not be enough, but if we do well, we should be able to complete these projects before the end of Marcos," he said. In the first -time lecture on the National Love Counseling last month, Marcos listed a series of commitments, including taxation and agricultural reforms, accelerating infrastructure upgrades, and plans to turn the Philippines into popular investment destinations. He also promised to concentrate on developing the Philippine Railway Network and continued to promote his former Duterte infrastructure plan.
The Philippine government's wind may be its strategy to negotiate with China. However, it may also be because some people in the Philippines are pressured. The Philippines Star News has previously reported that the Philippines has controversial railway projects from time to time. Some people encourage the government to stop seeking 3%interest rate loans from China and turn to Japan as low as 0.1%of railway loans.
In terms of transportation cooperation projects, Japan and the Philippines have finalized a subway construction cooperation this year. "Japan Economic News" previously reported that Japan's East East Construction and Japan Flying Island Construction and a Filipino construction company undertook the construction order of the first subway project in the Philippines Monara, the Philippines. This project aims to alleviate traffic congestion in the Philippine capital area.
The content of the order constructed by East East in Japan is: part of the remaining underground tunnel projects in the construction section first, with a total distance of about 3.4 kilometers. The main contents include civil engineering, tunnel construction, air conditioning, and ventilation equipment engineering. The Manila subway project has started in July and is expected to be completed by late January 2028.
"Japan Economic News" said that the construction of the Manila subway is a part of the development of the Philippine government infrastructure. It is intended to connect northern Manila with Nino Akino International Airport with 17 stations, with a total length of about 27.5 kilometers. Japan ’s East Construction has previously carried out transportation infrastructure business in Asian countries such as Indonesia and Bangladesh. The company stated that considering the use of experience and advantages accumulated in the development of domestic railway engineering and cities along the line, it should meet the growing transportation needs of countries in various countries.
In addition, "Japan Economic News" also reported that Mitsubishi Commercial has also received railway system orders from the Manila subway project in the Philippines. The order amount is about 140 billion yen, including systems other than subway vehicles such as signals, communication equipment, and ticket gate. In addition, Mitsubishi Commercial also plans to expand orders for subway cars and other subway systems. ▲
