Hurricanes in southern Brazil have caused nearly 600 penguins to die, and various marine creatures such as turtles are affected

On the 13th local time, from the Santos Basin Beach Monitoring Project (PMP-BS) of the Brazilian Santos Basin, it was influenced by the hurricane starting on the 9th of this month, and 596 penguin deaths, seagulls and sea turtles in southern Brazil, seagulls and turtles were found.The survival of various marine life is also threatened.

According to the monitoring data of the local meteorological department from 9th to 13th, the highest speed of hurricane in the St. Catalina region reached 111 kilometers per hour.

Analysis of marine biologists pointed out that Magellan Penguin, who died in this hurricane, often came to the coast near San Cataina, Brazil in the winter of the southern hemisphere for food.During the hurricane, the strong wind blowing from the ocean to the land usually pushed those animals that were not strong enough to push from the ocean to the beach. Among them, Magellan Penguin could not escape the impact of strong waves because it would not fly.

The Santos Basin Beach Monitoring Project was established by Brazil's National Petroleum Corporation in 2015 to evaluate the interference of birds, turtles and marine mammals carried out by oil production activities performed by Santos Basin.
