[Global Times Comprehensive Report] According to the British "Guardian" reported on the 7th, the Honeyman Museum in London, England will return 72 precious cultural relics to Nigeria. Experts say this is a "extremely important" moment.
The Honey Museum said at the press conference that after a unanimous voting by the board, the ownership of some historical relics will be transferred to the Nigerian government, including bronze, ivory products, brass etiquette supplies, and daily products such as fans and baskets. The director of the Honey Museum Eve Sarumon said: "The evidence is very clear, these items are obtained through force ... It is both moral and appropriate to return its ownership to Nigeria."
It is reported that in 1897, the British army plundered a large number of cultural relics in the ancient city of Beining, and about 10,000 cultural relics were lost. Today, these cultural relics are scattered in 165 museums and private hands around the world.
The board of directors of the Honeyman Museum negotiated with the Nigerian community in London in 2020 and made this decision. In addition to the Honeyman Museum, Oxford University has recently announced that it will return more than 200 cultural relics to Nigeria. (Wang Qu)
