It is reported that according to a agreement released by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, Canada and Denmark will cut the natural cracks along the island to divide the island with an area of 1.2 square kilometers into two parts of almost the same size.
Reuters mentioned that before the bilateral meeting of the territorial border in 1971, the two countries did not know that the other party also claimed that the island had sovereignty.
Since the 1980s, officials, scientists, and soldiers from Denmark and Canada boarded the island from time to time. The two sides took turns to demolish each other's national flag and raised their national flag.
Reuters quoted media reports that the two countries who visited the island would leave a bottle of Canadian whiskey or Danish Dusongzi wine to make the opponent find it next time the island, which has even become a tradition.
The report pointed out that in 2018, the two countries decided to set up a joint working group to resolve territorial disputes, ending the decades of "agreeing to retain different opinions" for decades. The latest announcement will be officially signed by ministers of the two countries after the approval of their respective parliaments.
It is reported that through this agreement, Canada and Denmark have established the world's longest section of the world's maritime border, extending from Lincoln Sea in the north to the Labrador Sea in the south, with a total length of 3882 kilometers.
