The European Union seek Nigeria to increase natural gas for Nigeria to supplement the gap

According to Matthew Baldwin, deputy director of the Energy Administration of Xinhua News Agency, said on July 23 that the European Union is seeking to obtain more natural gas supply from Nigeria in order to make up for the gap generated by importing Russia's energy.

According to Reuters, Baldwin recently visited Nigeria and held a meeting with Nye officials. Baldwin said in a telephone interview with Reuters that at this stage, 14%of the LPG's natural gas needed by the European Union was imported from Nigeria. In the future, this value may be turned or even more.

Due to the stolen and destruction of pipelines, Nigeria's oil and natural gas production is limited, Nigeria LNG Co., Ltd. runs only 60%of the production capacity of the terminal facilities of Bonni. Last year, Nigeria exported 23 billion cubic meters of natural gas to the European Union. This number has been declining in recent years. Baldwin said that in 2018, the EU imported from Nigeria was 36 billion cubic meters.

Nigerian officials told Bodwin that this West African country is improving the security of the Niger River Delta. This area is the major crude oil and natural gas production in Africa. According to Baldwin, if Niger's natural gas output increases to more than 80%of the capacity, more liquefied natural gas may be supplied to Europe.

Since Russia launched special military operations on Ukraine on February 24, the European Union has followed the United States' multiple rounds of sanctions against Russia.
