The 4 -day World Trade Organization's 12th Ministerial Conference (MC12) is being held in Geneva, Switzerland. During the meeting, many members of the WTO reiterated the core position of the WTO in the multilateral trade system, and hoped that the current ministerial conferences will achieve the results of important issues related to institutional reform and trade.

Kazakhstan delegation said Kazakhstan was a firm supporter of the multilateral trading system. The WTO, which hopes to play a core role in international trade, can promote reform and respond to challenges. Kazakhstan hopes that this ministerial meeting will achieve results in key issues such as epidemic response, new crown vaccine intellectual property exemption, grain security and fishery subsidies.

The Kenyan delegation said that the MC12 was held in the context of the new crown epidemic and geopolitical conflict, and it faced many trade -related challenges worldwide. The multilateral trading system will play an important role in finding a common solution.

The Indonesian delegation said that the WTO is the only international institution responsible for handling the rules of trade between the country. It has not changed as the cornerstone of the international trade system. All members should be responsible for the WTO while enjoying the benefits of the multilateral trade system. Indonesia calls on the World Trade Organization to update the rules to adapt to the current trade reality.

The Brazilian delegation said that the WTO faces severe challenges such as slow progress in multilateral negotiations and the suspension of appealing agencies, and reform is imperative. Brazil hopes that this session of this session will achieve results in issues such as agriculture, trade and health, fishery subsidies, and reform of the WTO.

The EU delegation stated that the multilateral trade system with the WTO as its core can play a key role in responding to global challenges. The European Union calls on the WTO to promote reforms in key areas such as dispute settlement, trade negotiations, and trade policy review, and update the rules manual to adapt to the trade environment of the 21st century.

The Minister of Commerce of China Wang Wentao attended the meeting. He said that the multilateral trade system with the World Trade Organization as the core is the cornerstone of international trade. China is willing to work with all parties to promote the World Trade Organization to play a greater role in the recovery of the world economy.

Wang Wentao said that China will continue to maintain a multilateral trade system with practical actions, support the development of the WTO in the correct direction, reform should strengthen the function of WTO, promote economic globalization, and benefit all members.

The WTO Ministerial Meeting is the highest decision -making power organization of the WTO, which is generally held every two years. MC12 was co -sponsored by the World Trade Organization and Kazakhstan. It is a ministerial meeting held again in the WTO in the past four and a half years. The ministers and representatives of the 164 members of the WTO attended the meeting.
