The "Artificial Intelligence and Society" launched by the University of Hernesses of Finland, the University of Edinburgh and the First University of Paris, France was officially launched in June. The course aims to cultivate the public's critical understanding of the basic knowledge of artificial intelligence and its related ethical issues, and discuss how to consider its social impact and related value when designing, implementing and deploying AI.
It is reported that this interdisciplinary class is based on the latest data science, artificial intelligence and social science research. The course adopts a modular structure, introduces the basic conceptual framework of AI, explains how AI appears around us, how to change society, what challenges we bring, and how we should deal with. The course also designed other related content for students to take according to their own interests, needs and backgrounds.
Jukka Nurminen, a professor at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Helsinki, said data science and artificial intelligence have brought a lot of convenience to people's daily lives and created a lot of opportunities. But at the same time, it also brings many new challenges in legal, morality, and politics. It is expected that through this course, people have a more comprehensive understanding of the impact of AI, and then let people actively deal with the negative problems that AI may bring, and benefit from the opportunity created by AI.
