Professor Gui Xien was born in Jiangling, Hubei, and was born in 1937. In 1976, he returned to Wuhan and went to the infection department of the Second Hospital of Hubei Medical University (now Wuhan University Central South Hospital).

Hubei Province's HIV maternal and infant communication rate has fallen below 3%, and is leading the country. The first comprehensive prevention and control of AIDS, hepatitis B, and syphilis maternal and infant communication was carried out among more than 1 million pregnant women. At present, the comprehensive prevention and control model has been adopted by the government and has been widely launched across the country.

Professor Gui Xien has a strong physique. In 2019, he was 82 years old. He can also see him on the basketball court of Wuhan University Medical College.
