[Global Times Comprehensive Report] The latest research on common drugs shows that steroid drugs may change the structure of the human brain. According to the British "Daily Mail" reported on August 30, through scanning the brain of nearly 25,000 people, scientists at Leiden University in the Netherlands found that patients with long brain white patients with glucocorticoids have less brain than normal people. It is related to the cognition and emotion of the brain, which may explain the correlation between such drugs and neurological diseases.
Data Map
Generally speaking, patients with asthma, arthritis, and eczema often take steroids, and side effects often include symptoms such as anxiety, emotional fluctuations, and depression, but this has not been confirmed. Although this latest research does not prove that drugs are the "culprit" that changes the brain structure, at least one point of view can be explained. Professor Mergel's research on the leadership said that glucocorticoids are likely to cause changes in the brain, but more research is needed to confirm the results. As a commonly used immune system drug, steroids are widely used in developed countries. One of 200 people take glucocorticoids; and in the United Kingdom and the United States, this proportion has risen to one percent. However, the researchers cannot confirm whether the depression and anxiety manifested by these patients stems from the brain changes caused by steroid drugs, or it is purely because of physical discomfort.
