Tan Tieniu, a model recognition and computer vision expert, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a foreign academician of the Royal Institute of Engineering, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences (TWAS), and a foreign academician of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences.

Born in Chaling County, Hunan Province on January 20, 1964. He graduated from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 1984 and received a master's degree in the British Empire Institute of Technology in 1986 and 1989, respectively. He was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2013. He was the director of the National Key Laboratory of the National Key Laboratory, Director of the Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Deputy Dean of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong.

Tan Tieniu is mainly engaged in research on image processing, computer vision and mode recognition. He is a leader in the field of model recognition and artificial intelligence. His academic contributions have laid the foundation for the sustainable development of his subject field. His scientific research results have been applied in many important areas.

In August 2022, the 26th International Model recognition conference awarded Tan Tieniu, the Fu Jing Sun Award, the highest award in the field of international model identification, to recognize his outstanding achievements in the field of model recognition. For the first time, scholars outside North America and Europe.
