The award is selected every 4 years, and the period of the Lu Xun Literature Award is from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2021.

The novel "The Past" uses the Vietnamese drama "Benyue" as a clue, and borrows the story of Chang'e to show the sadness and joy of the contemporary Yue opera. Ai Wei once said in an interview that the novel "The Past" came from a friend of Ai Wei. She told her mother's story after drinking. After 10 years, one day in 2020, at the study in Hangzhou's house, Ai Wei looked at a bird on the water surface of the Qiantang River -it always crossed the river alone, and that day, Ai Wei found it as a mother. Ai Wei remembered the story of his mother and mother, so he wrote "Past".
