Alzheimer's disease (AD) destroying memory and thinking is the most common dementia. The world's first study conducted by the University of Edice Curon (ECU) in Australia confirmed that there was a connection between intestinal diseases and ADs.

It is estimated that by 2030, AD will affect more than 82 million people and cause economic losses of $ 2 trillion, and there are currently no good treatment.

Previous observation studies have shown that there is a relationship between AD and gastrointestinal diseases, but the foundation of these relationships is unclear.

Now, the ECU precision health center provides new insights for these relations by confirming the genetic connection between AD and multiple intestinal diseases.

This study analyzed a large number of genetic data from AD and several intestinal diseases, and each study involved about 400,000 people.

The research leader Emmanuel Adewuyi said this is the first comprehensive assessment of the genetic relationship between AD and multiple intestinal diseases.

The research team found that people with AD and intestinal diseases have common genes.

"This study provides new opinions for observed AD and intestinal diseases at the same time."

ADewuyi said, "This deepen our understanding of these diseases and determined the new survey goals in order to discover the disease earlier and find new treatment methods for these two diseases."

Professor Simon Laws, director and research director of the Precision Health Center, said that although the study did not conclude that the intestinal disease caused AD, the research results were very valuable.

When researchers further analyzed the common genes of the two, they found other important connections between AD and intestinal diseases, such as cholesterol may also play a role.

Adewuyi said abnormal cholesterol levels are proven to cause AD and intestinal diseases.

"AD and these intestinal diseases commonly of genetic and biological characteristics show that lipid metabolism, immune system, and cholesterol -lowering drugs have played an important role."

The connection between cholesterol and brain may be essential among future treatment AD.
