Platinum perspective | Platinum is closely related to sustainable aviation fuel
Author:China Gold News Time:2022.07.13
Before the epidemic, the number of global flights worldwide was as high as 38.9 million times, a record high. Only in the UK, the greenhouse gas emissions of the aviation industry accounted for about 7 % of the country's total. Like other industries, the aviation industry needs to greatly reduce its dependence on fossil fuel to achieve net zero emissions targets. The British aviation industry has promised to reduce the net carbon emissions to zero by 2050.

Aviation kerosene is the preferred fuel for most aircraft. Because of its low temperature solidification point, combustion (power required for take -off), and low viscosity, it is unlikely to solidify at high altitude and block the engine.
Energy Technology Group Siemens Energy Company said that sustainable aviation fuel (SAFS) based on renewable energy and green hydrogen production is the key to achieving sustainable flight. This is why it cooperates with energy supplier UNIPER, aircraft manufacturer Airbus Company, and chemical and energy company Sasol Ecoft to launch the "Hamburg Green Fuel" project together to explore the sustainable production of sustainable production in Germany The commercial feasibility of aviation fuel projects.
These four project partners cover the entire value chain of carbon neutralization and kerosene production. Sustainable aviation fuel is also known as "Power-to-Liquid" or "PTL" kerosene. PTL is a synthetic liquid hydrocarbon compound manufactured in three key stages.
First of all, renewable energy provides motivation for electrolytic grooves and generates green hydrogen from water. Then, through similar direct air carbon capture, it is converted into carbon raw materials to obtain a neutral and carbon dioxide, and uses green hydrogen and synthetic carbon raw materials to produce liquid hydrocarbons. It then converted it into the same synthesis as the production as the aviation kerosene.
Capture and storage of carbon dioxide is the core of the production of liquid power (PTL). In fact, the carbon dioxide released during the combustion process was re -caught, and then combined with hydrogen to complete the closed loop of carbon dioxide, because these initially discharged carbon dioxide were re -used for fuel. Therefore, the emissions produced by PTL are reduced by as much as 90 % compared with fossil fuels.
The green fuel project in Hamburg is aimed at integrating the production of industrial scale and the production of sustainable aviation fuels to make significant contributions to the aviation industry's decarbon. It is planned to supply more than 10 tons of PTL aviation coal oil to Hamburg from 2026 from 2026. Essence Burger is very suitable for this pioneering large project, because the region is close to renewable energy origin and has necessary customers in the industry and aviation industry. One of the main advantages of PTL is that it can transport and distribute through the existing fossil fuel infrastructure network, including pipelines and fuel supply stations.
Today, the production cost of PTL is relatively high and the scale is small. With the continuous development of the green hydrogen ecosystem globally, this situation is expected to change. According to Airbus, the green hydrogen production capacity is expected to increase by 50 times in the next six years. This means that by 2050, green hydrogen is expected to meet 25 % of global energy demand.
The electrolytic slot of the Platinum Founded Proton Switch (PEM) is one of the two leading electrolytic technologies on the market. Although the amount of platinum required to produce green hydrogen has gradually increased with the expansion of the production capacity of electrolytes, the amount of platinum used in electrolytes is relatively small, and the service life is long, which means that there is no need to change platinum frequently. According to the technological development of the next 15 years, the total demand for platinum in electrolytes may be between 1 million and 2 million ounces.
More importantly, the development of hydrogen infrastructure supports a wider market penetration of fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV). The recent research report of the World Platinum Investment Association emphasizes that supportive hydrogen policies may lead to the flat demand for platinum with hydrogen fuel cell vehicles by 2039. At this point to 2033, within 11 years, the platinum annual demand in the automotive field will increase by more than 3 million ounces.
