CNOOC, Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission, Shell (China) Co., Ltd. and Exxon Mobil (China) Investment Co., Ltd. signed a memorandum of understanding of the CCUS cluster research project of the Daya Bay Area last week, and intended to jointly build China's first maritime carbonized carbon capture The storage scale can reach up to 10 million tons/year.

The Quartet will conduct joint research on assessing technical solutions, building business models, and clear policy support needs.

According to the plan, the first phase of the above project reaches 3 million to 5 million tons per year, and the carbon reduction effect is equivalent to 27 million to 45 million trees; in the second stage, strive to achieve carbon dioxide coverage of 5 million to 10 million tons. class.

The project will collect carbon dioxide discharged in the production through the production of the Greater Bay Area through the capture device. After compression, it is transported to the eligible waters nearby for sealing or geological utilization.

Earlier this year, Shell released the "China Energy System 2060 Carbon and China Report" stating that China's underground carbon sealing volume is expected to reach 2.4 trillion tons, second only to the United States. At present, there are more than 40 CCUS pilot projects in China, with a total blocking of 3 million tons. Many of these projects are small development projects related to improving oil harvesting. In the next 40 years, the scale of these projects will need to expand significantly.

On January 29 this year, Sinopec's first million-ton CCUS project in China, Qilu Petrochemical-Shengli Oilfield CCUS project in China, was completed.
