Volkswagen Group is the world's second largest automobile manufacturer. Dis was the CEO of the Volkswagen Group in 2018. The company did not announce the reason for Dis's departure, but Reuters quoted sources as saying that the Porsche family with most Volkswagen voting rights asked to replace the helmsman.
The media used "accidents" to evaluate the resignation incident.
"Herbert Dis has played a key role in promoting the transformation of the company. The group and its brand are feasible in the future; its innovation and profitability have been strengthened." The chairman of the board of directors of the company said in a statement. "He not only led the company through an extremely turbulent situation, but also implemented a new strategy."
Volkswagen said that it will invest 89 billion euros to develop electric vehicles in the next five years, and plans to achieve a quarter of the total sales of electric vehicle by the end of 2026.
In 2021, the global sales of Volkswagen electric vehicles almost doubled, reaching nearly 453,000 units, jumping to third place in the sales of pure electric vehicles, second only to Tesla and General Motors.
Although Volkswagen's plan to turn to electric vehicles may go further than most traditional car manufacturers, but in the competition of total car sales, it is far behind Toyota.
Last year, Toyota reported that the total car sales of automobiles in 2021 were 10.5 million units, exceeding 1.5 million Volkswagen.
In addition, since Dis was appointed as the CEO in 2018, Volkswagen's stock price has risen by about 10%, far lower than the 60%increase of Toyota Motors during the same period. Since the beginning of this year, Volkswagen's listing in Germany has fallen 28%.
